Develop devices that facilitate the safe handling and transferring of people, while reducing injuries to caregivers.
This involves:
Devices that will utilize the best "Zero-Lifting" practices
to reduce injuries to caregivers.
Devices that will enable people to function more
independently and longer in the home.
Devices that will protect patients in hospitals
and institutions from injuries.
At Unique Mobility Devices, we are dedicated to providing high-quality innovative devices to our patients.

The SitAssist One would normally be kept in a person’s residence, or at a facility, possibly in an upright “chair” mode, or...space permitting, lowered to the floor. It might be under a bed and can be shuttled out with the press of a button...or a shout to Alexa. It can even be summoned to the user by remote command as well. It might even unfold from a cube placed in someone’s living room.
There are no slings or bulky dizzying hoists necessary. Rather, the person needing a lift from the floor can just easily slide or roll onto the SitAssist with little to no fuss...and probably no help from anyone. This has already been demonstrated in private homes, nursing homes, hospitals and the famed Kessler Institute in West Orange, NJ. Nurses, aides, PT’s, MD’s, Nursing Homes and especially patients have expressed great comments and easily recognize the benefit of such a device. Another recommended use is to lower oneself to the floor, such as for exercise. The base model has a 300 lb. capacity, while the bariatric unit lifts up to 750 lbs. Accessories may be added such as a scale, wheels, communication and much more.
The most frequently voiced comment was:….”When can we get one?”
This is our original SitAssist device.
It was successfully demonstrated at the famed Kessler Institute in West Orange, NJ. In attendance were patients, aides, Physical Therapists, Nurses, MD's and even the Director. The SitAssist won acceptance and compliments from all, and the general consensus was that this simple device would serve at least two main purposes:
SitAssist 2 was conceived and developed by UMD after our initial demonstration at Kessler Institute. One of the Nurses present offered that there was a clear need for a device that could lift patients off of the floor in a stable & supine position for examination. This was not possible with any known lift at the time...such as by using airbags, slings and straps or other methods.
Later in the session, we announced that after careful consideration...the answer was "YES", we could develop such a device. We obtained a Grant from the NIH, developed & patented the improved lift and returned to Kessler to demonstrate it's abilities.
THEY LOVED IT !!!
The video was unpracticed, raw and shot in one take.

The standard SitAssist One will lift a 300 pound person, who is up to 6'-3" tall. The Bariatric version extends the weight limit to 650 pounds.
